Roadtrip

Stonehenge, quite a dramatical experience. What a place!

We used the Bank Holiday for renting a car and hit the English motorways. On the left side. And when I say we, I mean myself, Aina and Dorien.

Stonehenge seen from the car, seems quite small, but that is just in distance.

The first stop was Stonehenge, the mysterious place that nobody knows the story behind. It’s located in the county of Wiltshire, just a couple of hours drive from London (and that includes a coffee stop along the road). Stonehenge is composed of earthworks surrounding a circular setting of large standing stones, and some believe that it was built as early as 3000 BC. A must to visit if you’re on the roads in England, and now I can tick of that historical box…

The next stop on the route was Bath, another historical place that brits are quite proud of. It’s located in the county of Sommerset, 156 km west of London. Bath was actually first established as a spa resort by the Romans in AD 43, and that’s the reason behind the unusual name. The Romans built Baths and a temple on the surrounding hills of Bath in the valley of the River Avon around hot springs. The population of the city is now nearly 84,000.

It is easy to see the Roman influence in these buildings. The pictures are from The Circus, in the middle of the city.

We were blessed with a blue sky!

The day ended in the small village called Salisbury on the way home to London – and had dinner (at a pub, of course… meal deal) Quite pleased, seeing two World Heritage Sites in one day (the pub was not included, but OK, let’s say it’s on the list over typical English places to go anyway).

Camden Market

Monday, August 30th, 2010

While the sun was shining in London on Saturday, Aina (a friend of mine) and me decided to go to the popular Camden Market to look at strange goods, funny shops and interesting people.

Cute shop

A brief description of Camden Market, taken from Wikipedia:

The Camden Markets are a number of adjoining large markets in Camden Town near the Hampstead Road Lock of the Regent’s Canal (which is usually called Camden Lock), often called collectively “Camden Market” or “Camden Lock”. The stalls sell crafts, clothing, bric-a-brac, fast food, and other things. It is the fourth most popular visitor attraction in London, attracting approximately 100,000 people each weekend. A small local food market has operated in Inverness Street since the beginning of the twentieth century (this market lost stalls as local supermarkets opened; as of 2010 this market retains only three fruit and vegetable stalls, which do not open on Sundays, in addition to stalls like those in the other markets). In 1974 a weekly crafts market held every Sunday near Camden Lock was started; a large complex of markets grew from this small beginning. The markets have a mixture of temporary stalls and fixed premises.

The market is full of cute little things, tastes and views. Here are some of the things that we won’t forget:

Scrabble rings? Find a word with ten letters…

The cupcake icing probably looks better than it tastes.

London Calling!

Hi there! I’m a Russian doll, or, actually, I’m a bit confused, am I a pillow?

Aina fell in love with these rose rings.

Want a fish massage? (I have a feeling that these little creepy ones bite you, and it may tickle?)

A flying pig.

Hope your weekend was full of peculiar things like this as well…

Kathrin for Harper’s Bazaar

Thursday, August 26th, 2010

In January I was very lucky to assist my friend Tracy in a photoshoot in Paris. In addition to studying publishing with me, Tracy works as a stylist for Haper’s Bazaar Hong Kong. The photos were taken for the ‘men supplement’ magazine of Harper’s Bazaar that came with the spring/summer issue, but I haven’t got hold of it before now. Finally it has travelled the long way from Hong Kong to London – and is in my hands right now!

Rockabilly Paris!

The photoshoot was done in one day, but divided in two: outdoors photos and studio photos.

This is my favourite spreadsheet from the outdoors photos, makes me want to go to Paris again… It was a bit freezing for the model to pretend it was summer in January, but he managed.

Summer Sensation.

I like the photographers white style and the ‘fading’ photos in the background.

Nice.

And the model is pretty, of course.

Excited to see my byline here, and very thankful for being invited to the capital of beauty!
Good work by photographer Jo Moriyama and the stylist Tracy On.

Which one is your favourite?

Spicy

Tuesday, August 24th, 2010

My spicy meal (according to Reshma, it was not spicy at all…)

Tonight we celebrated Reshma’s birthday. Hurrah!
She took us to an authentic south indian restaurant in Tooting Broadway that specialize in vegetarian food, Saraswathy Bavan.

I just had to add a picture of Kaveh’s tahli. An amazingly huge dish, with a lot of exciting spices and flavours.

The birthday girl deserves cake. Not only one, but two. Luckily she shared with the rest of us.

Thank your for a real Indian night!

Garden Party

Tuesday, August 24th, 2010

It’s never to late to have dinner outside, especially when you have a lot of candles in the trees…

My friend Tracy and me have been planning to have a barbeque night for weeks now. She is lucky to have a big garden outside her flat, and that’s not very common for Londoners. Days went by and nothing happened. But yesterday we decided to get it over with (well… I could do it everyday if it was up to me) Because of a lack of charcoal, we made the food indoors (nooo, that doesn’t matter, what counts is that we ate outside!) On the menu was couscous salad with peppers, cucumbers, onions and mint leaves + homemade tzatziki with greek yoghurt, cucumbers and garlic + chorizo sausages + kebabs + smoothies. Mmmmmm!

Tracy serves the bowl of couscous.

Festival Fun

Wednesday, August 18th, 2010

My holiday was enjoyed back home in Norway, where I went straight home to ‘Sommerfesten på Giske 2010′, the amazing summer festival I’ve told you about earlier.

The free festival with 60 Norwegian and international artist, which everybody is looking forward to. Me too, of course.

I went there with Oda (it was her first time in Sunnmøre) & a lot of other old and new friends.

Haddy N’Jie also came…

…Minor Majority…

Analysing…

Wednesday, August 18th, 2010

The questionnaire answers for my master’s dissertation is about to be analysed. The overall aim of my research is to conduct research exploring the question ‘How can customer publishers can use social media to effectively increase their client’s brand value?’ – and I’ve already collected over 300 responses for the survey.

To all contributors who spent their time answering my survey – A MILLION THANKS TO YOU!

I would never be able to finish my dissertation without you. It’s practically a month left, and it’s about time to look at what you’ve answered and make conclusions on the topic. An exciting time! Today I took a coffee break in Clapham High Street with the survey result safely placed in my bag – intending to try one of the caramel macchiatos at Starbucks. Instead I found a cute little café in the same street, with lots of personality. Nice surroundings – good results? ;-)

Blueberry muffins for him:

Mix this in a bowl:
+ 1  3/4 cups of flour
+ 2/3 cup of sugar
+ 1 big spoon of baking soda
+ 1 tea spoon of vanilla sugar or vanilla extract
+ 1/2 tea spoon of salt
+ 6 big spoons of melted butter

And mix this in another:
+ 1 egg
+ 1/2 cup of milk

Mix the content of the two bowl together, and add
+ 1 cup of blueberries

Place in muffins forms. Bake in the oven for 20–25 minutes, 200 degrees.
The recipe will give you six big, American muffins.

Enjoy!

{ I’ve been on holiday – I hope you noticed.
But now I’m back, hoping to keep you posted. }
